Chatsworth challenge
YOU could never imagine it under the previous regime, but the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire put their pinnies on for a cookery challenge at this weekend's Chatsworth Country Fair.
The Duke goes head to head with Alan Titchmarsh, the nation's favourite gardener, while Her Grace is up against TV chef Rachel Green.

So are they handy with a skillet and do they have a favourite recipe?

"We don't have that information. Come al
ong and find out at 2.45pm on Friday," says the PR agency which Chatsworth now hires.

Spaced out at Hathersage
READER Pat Thompson reckons the mystery light over Hathersage (The Diary last Monday) was the manned international space station.

Malcolm Stuart was puzzled by it but then his car was doused in what smelled like aviation fuel.

"It appears to be stationary - as it is only moving very slowly - but is much brighter than the stars," says Pat.

"I have driven through fog and mist in this area many times but never been aware of the smell of aviation fuel!"

MP Caborn not famous enough!
BRRIING! Brriing! The Diary's phone goes and it's a Channel Five researcher for a programme about the Tinsley Towers. Can we suggest any local celebrities for or against demolition they haven't thought of?

It quickly appears there are a few criteria: under 30 and a pop or telly star.

This page suggests local MP Richard Caborn, the former Sports Minister.
"We thought about him and decided he's not widely known."

It's a small closed world on Channel Five.
