Sheffield to Paris by staying local
SHEFFIELD to Paris in under six hours sounds good to me – The Diary quite fancies a pain aux chocolat while strolling down the Champs Elysées.

But the idea of local going global will be explored in a one day art exhibition tomorrow, the final even
t in a series of one day showcases exploring the notion of "shifting places."

Daniel Simpkins and Penny Whitehead will present the Sheffield to Paris in Under Six Hours exhibition at the S1 Artspace in Trafalgar Court, Milton Street.

Swayze double
IT'S not quite a BAFTA or an Oscar but the people of South Yorkshire have spoken...

And the award for the best on-screen smacker goes to Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey for their kiss in the final scene of 1987's Dirty Dancing.

To celebrate the 11th annual National Kissing Day last Sunday, founder Denplan asked people about their favourite screen kisses.

Second most popular in South Yorkshire went to sexy Swayze again – when he puckered up with Demi Moore in 1990 hit Ghost.

Third was Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet in Titanic.

Off the wall idea
GOT no plans for the weekend? Why not have a go at building a wall?

Not convinced? Well this isn't just any wall – it's a dry stone one. The Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

And to celebrate they'll be running a series of courses for beginners and improvers every month at various Peak District sites.

Participants are promised 'structured tuition in an informal atmosphere.' The first two day course costs £70 and takes place at Tideswell Moor.

Call Alan Malia on 01246 280914 to book a place.
