FORGOTTEN books by local historian Roy Davey are being given a second life by a tiny Sheffield publishing company.
Simon Dawson, a partner in D S Publishing of Walkley, discovered one on Sheffield's old watermills in on a shelf in Sheffield Archiv
es. Roy died over 20 years ago but DS tracked down his son to get permission to republish Where t' watter runs o'er t' weir, which first saw the light of day in the '80s.
"It's the only book available on Sheffield watermills," says Simon.
A couple of years ago DS published another 'lost' Davey book, Reminiscing Around Rivelin. Roy lists well over a hundred mills on local rivers but most, sadly, have gone although the Shepherd's Wheel in Bingham Park, featured on the cover above, remains.
Simon reckons there's a call for the book now that walks have been established along the rivers and streams. And he's already thinking about republishing another lost Davey title, on bridges.
