HERE'S little orphan Lindsay, the pedigree Galloway calf at Whirlow Hall Farm, whose mum died from post-birth complications last Tuesday.
It was the third cow death at the farm which is enjoyed by local youngsters who get a feel for the rural life
.
"Another of our cows, due to give birth, was struck by lightning. All of this was on top of losing another of our cows a couple of months ago when she broke her pelvis," says farm trust boss Bridget Evans.
"That means that the number of cows in our herd is half what it was a short while ago."
Lindsay cried for hours until the farm brought a couple of Aberdeen Angus calves to keep her company.
"All we need now is some funds to enable us to buy some replacement cows!" says Bridget.
"We've been on an emotional roller-coaster."
Hop over to pubGARDENING tip. If you ever used to go and collect spent hops from Ward's Brewery when it was up and running you can do so now at Kelham island Brewery. They're good for the soil.
The brewery has ten to 12 sacks a week to give away. They will fit into the boot of a car but take some plastic because they can be damp.
Pop down between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
