THERE will be two ways to see the flypast.
The first is from the Derwent Dam itself but you will have to apply for tickets.

This is by e-mail to dambustersmemorial@peakdistrict.gov.uk

You will get an acknowledgement but will only be contacted if you are successful.

Don't try to go uninvited by car. There will be no vehicle access to Derwent Dam or the Derwent Valley north of the A57. Police will enforce strict parking controls on the A57 and surrounding roads.

The second way is to be under the flight path.

The Lancaster will take off from RAF Coningsby at 9.30am and approach the dam from the north. After three passes it will continue down the valley over Bamford Church Tower continuing on towards Chatsworth House and then east towards Scampton.

Derwent Dam and its reservoir were chosen by 617 to practise bouncing, or skimming, the bombs over the water, rather like you would a stone, to hit the dams.

Two of the dams - the Mohne and Eder - were breached, leading to serious flooding in the surrounding area, although industrial production was hardly affected, and eight of the 19 bombers were lost.

The most significant result was the hugely positive effect on Allied morale.
