IF you've always thought of a pop group drummer as the grumpy one at the back that might be because there's the threat of being replaced by a drum machine.
For the last 21 years Toni Cannelli, pictured, has been beating the drum for real live musicians and he's doing it again this Sunday at the Carling Academy with Beat 2008.
There will be trade stands and demonstrations and the final of the young dr
ummer competition.
"Pete Ray Biggin, who won in 1993 and is now in demand by people Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse is coming," says Toni.
World class snare drummer Eric Ward will be playing with a Scottish pipe band and local group Concord will perform their drums and lights show, Street Noize.
Toni is founder of the Drummers Alliance which protects and promotes the interests of the boys (and girls) with the sticks.
"When I started, drumming machines were taking over but you can't beat a real live musician," he says.
The event runs from 12.30 to 5pm. Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are £9.50 in advance or £12 on the door. Visit www.drummersalliance.com
