IF you've been fired up by those TV chefs making the most of the autumn's harvest you can get fruity in Sharrow on Saturday for free.
The Encounters shop on Wostenholm Road will be bursting with fruit, jams, chutneys and juices after volunteers in the Abundance project went out across the city and picked fruit from trees and bushes on waste land and gardens.

"We picked over 10,000 pieces of fruit last year and this year there's more," says organiser Ruth Nutter. "It's been a fantastic harvest."

You can "buy" with your own fruit memories or swap.

Last year they handed out free fruit in the city in exchange for answering fruity questions.

There's a munch-in for the opening ceremony at 2pm then the shop will open every Saturday, Wednesday and Thursday until November and over half term.

Carry on Smoking

GENTLEMEN of a certain age will be excited by the news that actress Fenella Fielding, now 78, is coming to the Lyceum in Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband.

While she has captivated everyone from Noel Coward to Frederico Fellini and is an accomplished actress there is one abiding image of her in the public consciousness.

It's that scene in Carry on Screaming when she plays Valeria, one of the Living Dead, lying seductively on a chaise-longue.

"Do you mind if I smoke?" she asks, as dry ice rises from her tum. Magic. The play is on from November 3 to 8.
