"SWANNEE, how I love you, how I love you," sings Bill Ward to the Diary.
He's getting in practice for the Hallmark of Harmony's trip to the national barbershop convention in Cheltenham on May 23.

The Sheffield group celebrated its 30th birthday last weekend very quietly. The party's in September.

"We're singing Swannee, which has won us lots of awards, and A Rose on Your Cheek," says Bill Ward.

It was on May 11, 1978, that the group held the inaugural meeting and the start of a pretty impressive record.

The gents have won the National Barbershop Chorus Championship no less than six times ("and never been out of the top eight", says Bill).

They've sung in America, in front of the Royal Family, been on the radio and TV and at the London Palladium.

"Since that first meeting two members still sing with us, chairman Tony Foster and Clive Hill," adds Bill.

The club has its feminine side, the Sheffield Ladies Harmony Chorus.

Hallmark meets tonight and Tuesdays at Holt House Infant School, off Abbeydale Road.
