Joe Aveling, 16, died in a car crash in Braithwell, near Rotherham, as he returned from a party to celebrate the end of his GCSEs.
Joe, from Maltby, known as Avo to his friends, was described by one of his teachers at St Bernard's School in Rotherham as "one of the nicest lads" in the school.

Pupils and teachers from the school visited the crash scene on Saturday to lay flowers and tie football jerseys to a nearby gate.

White Rotherham Town JFC jerseys were tied to the gate with messages written on them saying 'You always made me laugh.' 'Rest in Peace Avo, I'll never forget you.' and 'You were my real favourite player'.

An England flag was also tied to the gate from Birks Holt Sports Club Under 16s saying: "To a fallen hero."

If you would like to pay tribute to Joe, leave a comment below.

I DID NOT KNOW JOE BUT HE WAS A CLOSE FRIEND OF MY GRANDSON JAMIE, HE AND HIS FRIENDS ARE DEVASTATED. WHAT A WASTE OF A YOUNG LIFE, OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH HIS PARENTS AT THIS TIME AND CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW THEY ARE FEELING AT THIS TIME. MAYBE YOUNGSTERS MAY STOP AND THINK BEFORE PUTTING THEMSELVES AND OTHERS AT RISK. IT'S SO UNFAIR WHEN YOUNG LIVES ARE CUT SHORT, THEY GET VERY BAD PRESS AND HAVE BEEN DEMONISED OF LATE BUT WHEN WE TOOK MY GRANDSON TO PLACE FLOWERS AT THE CRASH SITE I SAW LOTS OF SAD CARING YOUNG PEOPLE NOT AFRAID TO SHOW THEIR EMOTIONS.I UNDERSTAND A SPECIAL MASS WAS HELD FOR JOE AT ST BERNARDS THIS MORNING.*Please enter your comment*

I work at St Bernard's and knew Joe well. We always had a laugh when I was in his Science class. He was lovely, very funny, very sweet. St Bernard's is a very quiet, sad place today. Some have had to come in and carry on with their exams and it was heartbreaking to see them trying to be strong. My prayers are with the family.

Such a waste of a young life, our son and his friends are devastated at Joes death. We have seen this weekend that the majority of our young people are so caring and value their friends more than we as parents realise! Our thoughts are with Joes family at this very sad time.Would also like to add that the Maltby boys did Joe proud in their football tournament at the weekend. He will be missed but not forgotten.

Joe you were a lovely lad a credit to your family, always smiling. You will be greatly missed. Saint Bernard's was a sad but peaceful place today, so many of your friends came to show their respect and offer prayers for you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May you rest in peace in God's arms. Amen

I knew Joe when i was around 10 or 11, i met him at football training at Millmoor. There was 2 players out of the kids that outplayed the others, they were 2 best friends, there was Joe and his friend Sam. Joe was a great lad and a great sportsman, he was a great footballer and had great potential to make it big time. He went on to play for the academy team and i lost contact with him from then on. He will be missed.

What can we say at this very sad time..Joe always had a smile on his face, and would say Hello when you passed him in the street. Our hearts go out to all his family and friends in Maltby. Even though we moved from the area last August Alex and Ethan are very shocked and upset by the news. He was a genuine caring lad who will be greatly missed by all. Lets hope this is a warning to all teenagers...STOP ... THINK and always remember JOE x
