Deborah and Paul Clements were killed together when their car was hit by a coach.
The couple, from Rawmarsh, Rotherham, were killed on the A64 at Staxton, near Scarborough.
One couple, from Bear Tree Road where Deborah, aged 39, and Paul, 40, lived, said they were both "fantastic people".
The woman, who did not want to be
named, said: "I was really good friends with Debbie - we'd been on holiday together and everything - and my husband was good mates with Paul.
"They were both fantastic people and we can't believe this had happened. They didn't deserve something like this."
Her husband added: "Paul was a brilliant bloke."
She said her daughters had grown up with the Clements' son, now aged 16, as they all lived on the same street.
The friend added: "The whole family would do anything for anybody. They are going to be missed so much by everyone who knew them."
