FORMER Sheffield pop singer, Colin Lumsdale, has died aged 51 following a car crash in South Africa.
Colin, front man and lead vocalist with popular 80s band Radiation, was injured after the car he was driving crashed when a tyre burst as he travelled home from work in Johannesburg.

He was taken to hospital where he remained in intensive care for a week until he showed a slight recovery and was moved on to a general ward.

But Colin's condition deteriorated and he died shortly after collapsing while walking back to his bed after going to the bathroom.

New romantic band Radiation were well known in Sheffield during the early 1980s when they regularly played to packed venues including Steeley's Nightclub and the Dial House Club.

Sad to read the news of Colin Lumsdale's death. The picture brought back memories of when we used to follow radiation in the eighties. Excellent live band that were very popular in sheffield. Darren + Tina

Very sad to hear the news! There has never been a band since on the club circuit that even came close to Radiation. Radiation were definately one of a kind and well before their time.
The band certainly influenced my 15 year club circuit career, and I'm sure many more artist too.
Colin was a true show man. You never took your eyes off him on stage.
Radiation were the pioneers of piro and smoke machines in clubland.
Many bands have come and gone since...There will only ever be one Radiation.
Such a great loss!!
Love to his family.
