Sarah’s tribute to hero soldier Andy

Sarah Lee Scott

Sarah Lee Scott

NEVER let it be said we’re not a generous bunch here in South Yorkshire – and professional singer-songwriter Sarah Lee Scott is the proof.

The 25-year-old Gleadless lass – non-stage name: Sarah Lawton – was so moved after watching a BBC documentary about a war hero struggling with his injuries she got on her piano, banged out a tune, and is selling the results for said war hero’s charity.

The crooner, of Charnock Hall Road, was left in tears by the story of Andy Allen, a Northern Irish soldier caught in a bomb blast in Afghanistan in 2008.

The 19-year-old lost both legs.

“My producer is actually friends with Andy and, through him, we’ve become friends,” says the former Birley Community College pupil.

She is currently writing songs for Sony while performing as a covers act at clubs and weddings.

“His story was so inspiring, I just wanted to do something to draw attention to what these guys have to go through.”

And that something is the track Don’t Let Go, available to buy on iTunes from Monday, with profits going to Andy Allen’s Veteran Support and Help For Heroes.
