AND from a comedy school to scholars doing comedy...

Organisers have announced Sheffield University’s fourth annual giggle fest is to be held in March.

And, while most of us don’t generally need an excuse to laugh at students, the three days of academic performances, professional routines and open mic sessions promise to be chuckle-tastic.

Highlights will include sets by circuit comedians such as Stephen Bailey and Sheep as well as student groups from Newcastle and Edinburgh.

The prestigous Chortle Student Comedian of the Year Sheffield Heat will also take place as part of the extravaganza.

“We’re excited,” says co-producer Emma Obank. “This is the only UK annual comedy festival which puts the emphasis on students performing.

“It’s a chance for Sheffielders to come along and see the talent on their doorstep as well as enjoy some great touring acts.”

The Student Comedy Festival takes place across three venues – the university’s Raynor Lounge, Fusion and Coffee Revolution – March 23 - 25.

Tickets, priced £5 - £8, are available at www.sheffieldsu.com with money raised going to St Luke’s Hospice.
