Bookworms take to digital reads

READERS have borrowed nearly 5,000 books in under six months after the launch of a new electronic library service.

Since July, members of Derbyshire libraries have been able to download books directly to their PCs, phones, tablet computers and e-readers using the free facility.

There are now more than 2,000 titles available from the catalogue of e-books.

Readers can borrow the books for a maximum of three weeks and are also allowed to set their own borrowing period.

Derbyshire Council leader Coun Andrew Lewer said take-up haf been better than expected. “Library users find downloading e-books easy to do, and people are obviously taking advantage of its convenience,” he said.
