Wisewood dispute is all about costs
Sir Bob Kerslake's job is to carry out council decision - not to push councillors or the electorate to take the decision he wants. Both he and Jonathan Crossley-Holland have already revealed the true motive for closing Wisewood - it's to cut costs.
One school needs one head teacher, one management team and one staff of teachers, this is cheaper than two. Result is ... they save money.
So to them and the government "Big is Best" and "Bigger is Better". I think they are wrong. I think smaller class sizes produce better education.
They don't agree; so on 25th July they will rescind a previous council decision and close Wisewood School. Paul License was absolutely right in his Speaking Out column (July 20): it mocks our political process when the council can "ignore the wishes of the people" if it doesn't agree with their "neat plans".
