Wasted calls Having wasted thousands ending out all those letters, Labour now wastes more by ringing up households to do a questionnaire. Has anyone else had these calls? I can’t be the only one. I didn’t catch the name of the Labour representative because I wasn’t really interested, then I thought I would give her the benefit of the doubt and hear her out. She just wanted to ask which party I vote for, who I’d like to see in Government and who I vote for in the local elections. I had great pleasure in answering but what a waste of time and money. Having got the answers what good will it do, what can it possibly achieve? Labour stupidity. K Hammond

Spy cameras

The plan for road ‘spy cameras’ assumes the same amount of income year on year. Surely as more become aware or caught the income will decline, or is the council suggesting motorists are so stupid and will keep getting caught?

Also, the costs seem under-estimated: £7k a year running costs seems low especially when you consider how vulnerable these units are. As it suggests extra units will be introduced and suddenly that £7k a year fee grows.

Give Eric Sykes a knighthood

So they’ve taken back Fred the Shred’s knighthood. Perhaps it’s time to consider giving one to someone who has brought joy rather than misery to millions.

Sixty years ago Eric Sykes wrote the scripts for top radio shows. Many of today’s comedy heroes who came to fame in the 50s and 60s did so with Eric Sykes’s scripts.

He wrote more Goon Shows – which influenced the comedians, who influenced the comedians, who influenced today’s comedians – than did (Sir) Spike Milligan, although he has always refused to take credit for this. His Sykes TV show was the top-rated sitcom for 12 years, only ending with the death of Hattie Jacques. Again modestly he gives her all the credit for the show’s success.

And today, nearing 90, virtually deaf and blind, he is still writing and performing to great acclaim.

Who you'd like to see in Government and who you'd like to see in the Council are two different questions. Refreshing to see Labour actually realising this.

Here's K Hammond & Sir Talksalot both proving the truth of the old saying -' why stay silent & have others think you stupid, when you can open your mouth & prove them right'. The letters were from the COUNCIL as part of the consultation about the budget cuts forced on us by Clegg & his mates. The 'phone call was from a Labour Party member, canvassing for the forthcoming elections, in the same way that the LibDems are currently doing in Crookes. Oddly, the latter are not mentioning that their candidate works for Clegg - given how many votes Clegg has picked up over the years from people who wanted to keep the Tories out!

Labour stupidity? Get with the programme. This is Labour's idea of consultation with the people. Of course they have learned from past mistakes and want to listen to what the people have to say. That way they can spend more money. Of course having spent all that money listening they'll treat us all with their usual contempt and do what they want for their own benefit anyway.
