Tracing old army pal

I REALISE this is a bit like throwing a needle into a hay stack, but here goes.

From 1947-1949, I served in the British Army at a barracks at Nee Soon in Singapore. For my trouble I was a statistician on manpower planning and one of my close associates, as well as booze mate, was named Don Ashmore, living, I think, on Bramall Lane by the football ground.

In 1952, being married and having a new Ford Anglia, my then wife (now deceased) decided to drive to see the Blackpool lights.

And after this we decided to drive to Sheffield to catch up and knock, knock on the door. When Don opened the door he put a finger to his lips, shook his head and said: "Where the hell have you come from?" His wife appeared and I explained about working with Don in Singapore.

Since this time, I've visited and worked in various places also I've re married a lady from Wales. Anyway, I've been wondering if he is still around as I would like to catch up and find out how life has worked out for him.

Me, I've had a ball, from tenement Victorian flat near the Thames to present comfort. My mum and dad had five kids and I was the only one to survive and see they had a comfortable retirement out here in Australia. I still have two aunts living in Kent and see them whenever I come back for a holiday, usually in a camper van. I'm travelling mad, bit ancient now but, my present wife of 80-years is, thankfully, as crazy as me. I've three sons spread around, at present all in Australia, but the eldest I last met in Papua, New Guinera, about 16 years ago but the telephone is marvellous.

Any help in finding Don would be appreciated.
