Three councillors lost seats over Wisewood school

IT was interesting to read Labour's Jan Wilson's' comments that 'we have lost three good councillors' (May 5) after last Thursday's Local elections in Sheffield.

The reason that one of these councillors lost his seat, Alf Meade in Hillsborough, is because on the issue of the proposed closure of Wisewood Secondary School, he failed to be a good councillor.

Ex-councillor Meade and his two Labour Hillsborough colleagues, Janet Bragg and Robert MacDonald, had several opportunities to support pupils, parents, grandparents, teachers, support staff, local businesses and other concerned locals who consistently asked for their support at public meetings, private meetings, council meetings, by letter, by email and even by haranguing the councillors in public on occasions.

At three council votes on the issue all three Hillsborough councillors voted for the closure of the Hillsborough Ward’s only secondary school because the proposal was being put forward by their Labour Political Party.

A party to whom all three councillors have stated they have more allegiance than to the constituents who voted for them and expected to be represented by them.

Instead of support from their councillors, the Hillsborough public were patronised and ignored because our views were not compliant with those of the Labour controlled council.

Alf Meade and his two Labour colleagues have failed constituents on the biggest issue to affect Hillsborough.
