Think carefully on future of Sheffield
IN your May 15 edition you tucked away at the bottom of page 22 the news that Sheffield is 'one of seven major European cities that are completing a dazzling comeback' due to measures 'which turned Sheffield into an avant garde model of city reform'.
This is news that merits at least a mention on page one.
The London School of Economics report highlighted the importance of Labour Government funding, the neighbourhoods strategy and the policy to close the gap between the rich and poor areas of the city, as well as the many successful partnerships built up in recent years.
Will the new Liberal Democrat administration think carefully about this assessment before setting about dismantling some of these policies which have contributed so significantly to Sheffield's regeneration in recent years according to this independent report?
Their proposals before the recent local election will mean taking resources away from poorer parts of the city and putting more into wealthier areas.
They have also indicated they wish to dismantle some of the partnerships that have played such a significant role in boosting the city's economy.
