Support ban of circus animals

The RSPCA is writing to ask for urgent support to encourage your local MP to attend a debate and vote for a ban on the use of wild animals in circuses.

A backbench debate at the House of Commons will take place on Thursday, June 23 at 3pm to raise this issue and urge the government to rethink their strategy for licensing the use of wild animals in circuses. It is vitally important that as many MPs as possible attend and vote and we are co-hosting a drop in surgery in the Boothroyd Room in Portcullis House on the Thursday from 2-4pm to answer any questions MPs may have.

The RSPCA believes wild animals simply should not be used as part of circuses and that no other wild animals should have to endure circus life like Anne the elephant and others have done.

Successive polls show the majority of the public agree and 94% of those who responded to public consultation on this supported a ban.

It is clearly wrong for animals like elephants, tigers and lions to be housed in enclosures that are far too small for them and to spend most of the summer season being moved from site to site. For over 90% of the day they are housed in enclosures a quarter of the size of those recommended in zoos, or even tethered to pegs, unable to move more than a few metres.

Gaddafi games

As if Col Gaddafi would be able to attend the Olympics as suggested. But, knowing this stupid world of ours, they will let him attend then let him go home and then start looking for him. That’s what we did with Hitler, remember.

I second that Shaun ! and Chris....A total Ban on the use of animals in the circus will open up a whole new can of worms......it's ridiculous and the "Truth" is out there:-http:www.facebook.comprofile.php?id=1350870331#!home.php?sk=group_117077661707130¬if_t=group_activity - all you need to do is look dont just believe what you see or hear - The link is to a group which members of the public are allowed to see and comment and where circus people can show pictures and videos of their animals in their working environment proving that life for an animal on the circus can be just as fulfilling for them as it would be anywhere else, maybe more so....but take a look and decide for yourself its called "Circus The Truth" and it's on faceboook,

Oh dear another story failing to tell a few truths yet again the so called '94%' of the public from a public consultation? 1st the petition used for this figure is flawed it allows multiple signatures from the very same person and no restrictions it also allows people from all over the world to sign a petition that is for the english people only and most of the people signing this petition have either falsely signed more than once or do not even come from the uk and have votes from across the world there is solid conclusive proof to back that up! 2nd rspca seem a little 2faced here because again they claim to support a ban yet they got an independant specialist to spend 18 months studying circus animals in a circus enviroment which which concluded that there was NO evidence to support a ban and that the animals were adequitely housed and well looked after. remember THIS WAS AN RSPCA COMMISIONED ASSESMENT they may not of liked the conclusion but it showed the truth beneath the lies so why believe an organisation when they change with the wind to whatever suits them at the time! check out circus the truth on facebook and circusunite on youtube for awesome GENUINE video's and photos and a few truths to your be pleasently surprised!

Sadly, the RSPCA's 'surgery' (ha ha!) will consist of their political propaganda rather than acknowledging the high standards of husbandry at modern circuses. Their involvement in this way demonstrates that an organisation thought of as dealing with animal welfare has in fact become one which spends a disproportionate amount of its vast income on political campaigning. Campaigning for improved welfare is fine; campaigning for animal rights, a dangerous and extreme philosophy, is not. By contrast, the circus community devote themselves daily to the care of their animals. Circus people listen to and act upon the recommendations of politically-neutral veterinarians and animal behaviourists; we are the ones dealing with animal welfare! You can see how animals are actually kept in modern circuses on the Circus The Truth page at Facebook. Please take a look. Thanks.

Since many circuses in the old days looked after their animals very well and showed them off to the children of the day that had no chance of seeing such animals in the wild I do not agree with the RSPCA however, if they did the same action towards Zoo' s that keep animals in enclosures not fitting for them to live out their lives in captivity then go for it. Lets not leave it there, A complete ban on all birds being kept in cages, animals that are not domesticated should never be allowed to be in captivity!
