Sign the petition

IT is reported that Cameron will drop any intention of banning the use of ‘wild’ animals (eg tigers, elephants, crocs) in circuses, despite mountainous evidence of animal-suffering in training, confinement and performance and the overwhelming majority of public opinion. I urge readers to sign a petition at petitionbuzz.com/petitions/circusanimals. Tories are no friends to animals. At the hands of Jim Paice, the Tory minister for animal welfare and hunting, 40 million pheasants and partridges will continue to be kept in battery-cages, badgers will be massacred, vets will be withdrawn from markets, prosecutions of cruel slaughterhouse workers have been dropped and hunting remains a cherished intention.

What an indictment that the developing world is leading the way in banning wild animals in circuses. Many animals used in circuses are on the edge of extinction in their natural environments, tigers, lions, elephants and grevys zebra's. How are we to promote respect for conservation if we continue to exploit these animals getting them to perform meaningless tasks in the name of entertainment. The diversity of species on this planet makes life worth living ,.We share this planet we do not own it. As for Sir Taxedalots comments,I have donated to many charities for people young and old and animals alike, have you sir .Your argument that we should improve the lives of every human being before we show compassion for animals is utter twaddle.

Even if you're not a big animal welfare advocate, surely you must be a little concerned about this 'big society' toting leader of our government completely disregarding the opinions and wishes of the majority of the population!!!!!!!! Whatever issue YOU believe in passionately may well be next to be ridden roughshod over. There's more at stake here than circus animals!

As the dominant species, claiming to have civilised values, we have a duty of care to all other life forms on this planet. This arrogant attitude that only humans matter and all the other species are here for our benefit is backward and discredited. We know that animals aren't here for our amusement; they all play some small part in keeping this planet habitable. We are the only species that drives other species into extinction and whose behaviour is destroying the environment. We are the pariahs of the planet and need to learn a little humility.

When children and old folk are treated better than animals I'll support animal welfare. You need to get your priorities right.
