RSPCA hotline for cases of animal cruelty
I write in response to a letter from Conrad Lorenz (December 6).
The RSPCA is most grateful to Mr Lorenz, who clearly showed great concern over the welfare of an injured fox. However, he asserts that he was unable to reach the RSPCA after first trying to call the RSPCA Sheffield Branch Animal Centre and a local RSPCA inspector.
The RSPCA has a dedicated 24-hour helpline for anyone who wishes to report an incident of animal cruelty, neglect or abandonment.
This number if 0300 123 4999 and is the only one able to request an inspector or animal collection officer. All complaints of cruelty or requests for advice must be phoned through to this number, when an inspector or animal collection officer may be tasked to attend.
The RSPCA Sheffield Branch Animal Centre is not able to deal with complaints of cruelty or send officers to a sick animal.
Anyone wishing to report an incident of animal cruelty should not telephone or e-mail the branch, or their local inspector, but instead call the RSPCA helpline number above.
