Raising issue of homes funding
AS Members of Parliament for Sheffield we are all too well aware of the problems many people face in getting a home in which to live.
Although there has been an increase in the number of homes, that increase has not kept pace with household formation. This led us to pressure and lobby the Government to support a new programme of council house building. We are pleased to say that the Government has responded positively.
As a start, the Homes and Communities Agency allocated 300 million for which councils can bid.
The Government has announced only this week a further 1.5 billion to build 20,000 affordable new homes over the next two years.
Our purpose in writing is to encourage the city council leadership to make a bid for this money and start a new council house building programme in Sheffield.
Housing is such an important issue that it is time for us all to work together.
