MPs must stand against this bill

THE Digital Economy Bill, currently being rushed through Parliament, threatens internet users' rights.

One proposal is to make internet account-holders liable if copyrighted content is downloaded illicitly.

The punishment for being accused of copyright infringement repeatedly could be account suspension, which would punish all who rely on that connection, regardless of whether they are guilty. This would apply equally to families, businesses, libraries, schools and universities.

I urge people to ask their MP to challenge these proposals and also ask Sheffield MPs and candidates to state their position on the bill. We need to know whether they will stand up for what's right and fair or if they will tow the party line.
