Labour right over blacklisting stand
I applaud the Labour government for their committment to outlaw the blacklisting of workers, after it was revealed that major construction firms have been paying to use the blacklisting services to vet ordinary lads and lasses as potential employees.
The Information Commissioner's office last month revealed it had uncovered a database, run for over 15 years. The information covered Trade Union membership, employment history and also sensitive personal information such as relationships.
The Deputy Information Commissioner said it constituted a serious breach of the data protection act. The Government have pledged to ensure this "scurrilous activity" is ended.
This is a step in the right direction in the fight for justice for our workers denied work they needed to support themselves and their families.
