Labour is just trying to win back votes
So Sheffield's Labour controlled City Council has decided to press ahead with the proposal to replace Myers Grove and Wisewood secondary schoolsl, resulting in the closure of the only secondary school in the Hillsborough Ward.
The decision comes as no surprise as the council put only one option forward and said from the start of the series of 50 expensive meetings that this option was the only viable one.
What is surprising is that the Hillsborough community believed the consultation was genuine and our views would be taken into account.
The consultation looked at Secondary Education in the North West Area of Sheffield and the areas that are getting investment and / or being safeguarded – Stannington, Walkley and to a lesser extent Crookes and Stocksbridge – all have Liberal Democrat councillors (10 out of 12 councillors), with the exceptions currently being one Labour councillor in Walkley and one independent councillor at Stocksbridge.
The only reason the Labour council is investing in these areas is in an attempt to win back votes and council seats that it has lost in these areas over the years.
