Feel safer when hiring a taxi
SOME readers, especially women, may be worried about going out late and thinking twice about getting a taxi.
I've just been in one of the new taxis that have a mini CCTV system fitted. The driver explained that it helps them from being on the receiving end of abusive behaviour. But it also made me feel much safer as a passenger. It doesn't cost any more for a journey than an ordinary taxi but it's reassuring to know it helps to prevent crime. If anything should happen the taxi driver can take the CCTV disc to Doncaster police station where the police can use it to identify the wrong-doers. The disc is coded, so only the police can look at the contents.
I've seen it in London, but did not know until recently that it had arrived in Doncaster. Brilliant idea, well done Doncaster taxi drivers and Doncaster police for starting a fantastic new scheme. So, ladies, if you need to get a taxi at night and are worried, don't forget to ask for one with CCTV inside.
