Farewell, Billytoo, you will be missed
FOR just over seven years, my bright little Yorkie, Billytoo brought smiles and attention out of 100 or more folk whom we met on our daily trips to Frecheville shops or around the oaks and heather of Wickfield Plantation.
Silver-backed, with a golden beard and an upright tail which rarely stopped wagging, he was everyone’s friend and will be missed by all of them.
Six walks (on good days) totalling five miles, he never tired and enjoyed life to the full, inquisitive and bouncy. Occasionally, a nuisance when he jumped on my knee stopping my BSc homework or antique fiddle making.
He was, nevertheless, my best friend until, out of the blue, meningitis suddenly struck. Now he is with his cousin Billy, who was Joan’s dog until she became too ill to look after him. A year later, he was killed by a strong Akita.
Everyone said “When you see Colin, there’s ‘Billy’ too”, so that is how he got his name.
After seeing him writhing in agony on the floor, I shall take a lot of persuading to have another dog. Goodbye, goodbye Billytoo.
Colin (tearfully) Hierde, Alport Road, Sheffield, S12.
