DOOLEY: Link statue to whole city

DEREK Dooley was a great man, who helped pull both sides of this great footballing city together.

It's a fantastic idea to have a statue built in his great memory. But I think MCCabe has jumped the gun and made a suggestion that will only please the 'red' half of the city. It's location at Bramall Lane would be ideal if Derek was only a 'United' man, but as he represents both sides of this footballing city a non-United site would preferably be better.

Many a 'blue' fan would feel deeply embarrassed to have to go to Blades-land to have to pay homage and respects to this great city hero. Derek deserves better than that.

A statue in the Peace Gardens, in the very 'Heart of the City' would be a far more fitting tribute to such a great (but humble) man.

From there Derek could watch over the thousands enjoying 'Sheffield-by-Sea' on a hot summer day.

IT would be most fitting to have a statue of Derek Dooley, a much-loved man, but please not at Bramall Lane. If SUFC want to place their own tribute there (and similarly SWFC one of their own at Hillsborough) all well and good. Surely, Derek was a man who belonged to the whole of the city and should, therefore, be honoured in the city centre, where everyone would would have access? How about the top of Fargate, Peace Gardens or the Winter Garden?
