Courage offers hope

AS AN anti-bullying campaigner intent on bringing to the attention of our Government the devastating effect anxiety illness has on bullied children, I am deeply saddened that it has taken the loss of a bright young teacher before anyone reports the consequences of anxiety illness.

School bullies who go undisciplined become adult bullies when not taught responsibility for their actions.

However, I was pleased to read that a teacher of 30 years standing has had the courage to speak the truth about this devastating illness which I know affects so many young people.

It would offer more hope to those suffering if more teachers were to come forward as well.

I am working on bringing a Red Balloon Learner Centre to South Yorkshire which would pick up the victims of severe bullying who are denied their place in our schools whilst the bullies are the ones who remain in the system.

Mainstream schools need to become safer environments for our children and for the staff also who work hard and are also at risk from bad behaviour.

My heartfelt sympathy goes to the devastated families of the beautiful young teacher Britt Pilton. I feel ashamed that this has happened in Rotherham and would urge our Education Authority to now lead the way in eradicating bad behaviour that destroys so many lives.
