Bring back Castle House Co-op
Re: The Grade II (Listing of Castle House Co-op) (Thursday 23 April).
We are a group of ladies who were opposed to the closure of Castle House Co-op last year.
We put up a good fight including letters to the managing director, Sheffield Councillors, The Star etc. We also drew up a petition of hundreds of signatures. In the end unfortunately to no avail.
We would like to thank the 20th Century Society who applied to English Heritage for Grade II listing, and that it was successful, through the Government's decision.
Now we read in The Star that council leader Liberal Paul Scriven and his party are appealing against the decision, and we are concerned that it will be overturned.
We want the Castle House Co-op re-opened by a company to once again enjoy the interior and unique spiral staircase etc. and recreate the friendly department store as it once was.
The proposed 'Important Re-generation Area' will just have to be built around it!
