Quarry Park campaigners protest plan

CAMPAIGNERS are planning to pack a public meeting to show the strength of feeling in their community against controversial housing plans.

More than 250 people have already signed an online petition against plans to build 150 new houses on a site near Quarry Park, between Dunsville and Dunscroft.

Now members of the Save Dunsville Quarry and Broadway Woodland group are planning to assemble as many of their supporters as possible at a Hatfield Town Council meeting on Monday at 7pm.

Campaigner Julie Mills said: “We feel that there is space to build probably 1,000 houses in parts of Stainforth which have been demolished, so should not be building there.

“We are certainly hoping to get 50 or 60 to attend the council meeting. I think it is vital that people show up to show how strong the local feeling is.”

Residents are concerned that if the houses are built on the 1.2 acre site next to Broadway it could snowball with more houses added later.

“We fear we could end up with houses all the way to Wyndthorpe Hall,” added Julie.

Town Councillor Mick Glynn, who is backing the campaigners, said: “There is no need for 150 houses there.”

He said he does not believe the schools and health services could deal with a major rise in housing.

Developer Dantom Homes has stressed it does not plan on building on the quarry, but on a piece of land adjacent to it.

The firm says it is currently just consulting on the proposals and that feedback so far had mostly been positive. A spokesman said the land had been used as a dumping ground.

Doncaster ward Coun Pat Knight has asked residents to tell her their views.

i have been walking the streets of dunscroft tonight with a petition against this development collecting signaturand and i have not come upon one person who i sn,t totally against this development.. people are really incensed by the idea of it and extremely angered at the thought of losing any part of the quarry to property development.. it is a well known fact that there is a property slump in the uk and people have less disposable income, and there are many houses for sale or to rent in the area already so why do we need anymore in these austere times ? i can,t see the logic in it, on the other side of the coin there are very few recreational areas for families to take their children and walk their dogs in an area of natural beauty, these developers who do better to provide more local ameneties such as sports and leisure centre or youth club, which are sadly lacking, this would better serve the community than more housing estates, there has been a whole area of houses demolished in stainforth, leaving a gaping landscape which would be much better served for new housing, than taking something of value away from our community. i,m sure part of the infrastructure remains on the demolished sight so go develop that it makes sound logic to me, but then having said that i am not a coucillor, property developer or planning officer, so perhaps logic doesn,t come into it, i,m just a mere mortal who enjoys walking my dogs on the soon to be destroyed quarry !!

I would like to know what positive feedback the developer is talking about? Everybody I have spoken to have been opposed to the development. Councillor Knight ought to remember who put her in her job, and who will remove her. Why is she backing the developer over her voters? the very next village dad an entire estate demolished years age, why cant that land be used for so called necessary housing?
