Park youngsters get on their bikes
Lord Mayor Sylvia Dunkley and C Beebies Sid Sloane open the new outdoor gym and cycle track in MIllhouses Park
YOUNGSTERS have been queuing up to get on their bikes...
The new children’s cycle track at Millhouses Park has proved a hit after it was installed alongside an outdoor gym in a £50,000 National Lottery-funded project.
The scheme also included replacing elm trees with oaks and creating a new access road.
The scheme is the latest improvement at the park spearheaded by the Friends of Millhouses Park, a group formed by local residents.
Kate Stow, who organised the cycle track and outdoor gym project, said: “The cycle track has been incredibly well-used with children queuing to get on it.

“We came up with the idea of the outdoor gym because of seeing the success of facilities at Endcliffe Park, then a few of the women said they would use the gym if there was somewhere to take their children, so we came up with the cycle track idea.
“I have been amazed at how popular both have been.”
The cycle track - opened by Lord Mayor Sylvia Dunkley and children’s TV presenter Sid Sloane, currently in panto at The Lyceum theatre - has also helped to relieve pressure on Millhouses Park’s skate park by offering an alternative for younger children.
The gym equipment includes hip swing and pull up bars, leg and arm presses.
John Brighton, secretary of the Friends of Millhouses Park, said the next project on the horizon is restoring historic former mill buildings which date back to the 1700s.
Restoration on the small building in the spring, while the group is seeking funding to restore the larger one.
