Nightclub plans set for approval

OWNERS of a Sheffield nightclub are seeking planning permission to stay in business for a further three years.

DQ on Fitzwilliam Street, the city centre, currently has permission to be a restaurant and public bar, but has no limits on opening hours.

Its bosses have applied to Sheffield Council for a three-year temporary consent to open as a nightclub between 10pm and 4am daily. The proposal has been recommended for approval by planning officers and is set to be granted at a council planning board meeting on Monday.

Twelve letters and a 14-signature petition have been sent objecting to the plans on the grounds of late night noise disturbance. But council officers say a bar could operate with the same hours under existing planning consent so there would ‘not be much difference between the two uses’.
