A CAMPAIGN against plans by Sheffield Council to scrap weekly bin collections has been supported by Euro MP for the region.

Edward McMillan-Scott, Lib Dem member for Yorkshire and The Humber, joined Coun Shaffaq Mohammed, Sheffield Council Lib Dem group leader, Coun Sylvia Anginotti, member for Crookes, party campaigner Rob Frost and students in Crookes to highlight the issue.

The Lib Dems knocked on doors in the Bole Hill area asking for views on the Labour-run council’s plans.

Mr McMillan-Scott said: “People are angry about Labour’s cuts.

“The cuts in collections will cause real difficulties for families and students.”

Ruling labour councillors say reducing black bin collections from weekly to fortnightly is necessary to make savings to protect other services.

#1 Too right......this muppet didn't do anything about this system being introduced in Rotherham or Doncaster, so why has he got a bee in his bonnet now?? It's all a spurious argument anyway, who gives a monkeys uncle how often they collect the bins....so long as people recycle properly, there should not be a problem. You would think that the 'students' would relish the thought of recycling their beer cans....and surely they don't eat enough fast food to fill their bins with discarded cartons??

Does this mans constituency not cover authoristies where there are already fortnightly collections ie Rotherham??? Is he proposing that they revert to a weekly collection too?
