CONSERVING OUR FUTURE: We would like to thank…

October has been a truly wonderful month for Sheffield Conservation Volunteers as on the 15th, we were the very proud recipients of the Sheffield Telegraph Environment Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.

We were gobsmacked!

I went along to the event with one of our longest standing members, Dave Sinclair who has been with the group for 25 years.

Dave and I went along, not knowing which award we had been nominated for, who had nominated us or really what to expect but the evening turned out to be a lot of fun with many like-minded companies and old friends, good dinner and a fantastic finish.

I felt a little like a charlatan collecting the award from BBC weatherman Paul Hudson and Meadowhall director Mohammed Dajani as I have only been with the group for 3 years, but Dave does not like to have his photograph taken, so me it was!

We would like to send a heartfelt thanks to all who nominated us and to Sheffield Newspapers for their support and for running the awards; it really does mean a lot to us after all these years.

But worry not – we are not likely to pack up and go home anytime soon!

The group is experiencing high numbers at the moment and although the days are colder there is always a good brew on and a real mix of group volunteers to ensure a great day is had by all.

This month we have worked alongside the community at the General Cemetery and habitat management in Barnsley.

All we need to do now is decide who will keep the award on their mantelpiece!!
