CHARIBAG ACTION: Real men use charibags!

The average plastic bag has a use of just 20 minutes, but an overall lifespan of over 1,000 years.

This realisation has led to both retailers and the public to look for an alternative way to carry shopping.

And with ever-increasing public awareness about environmental issues, the plastic-bag debate has been getting a lot of attention. In addition to taking up landfill space, plastic bags are an unsightly blot on local landscapes.

As co-founder of Charibags I want to encourage more people to use our reusable 'charibags' as they help the environment and local good causes.

Using a reusable bag when you go shopping can help you to make a start to a greener lifestyle, whilst showing you care for others.

The 'charibag' campaign was launched in 2006 and the Sheffield Children's Hospital range has already generated over 26,000 in donations for the hospital charity, city schools and the flood appeal and potentially saved nearly 4 million single-use plastic bags from being used in and around the city.

Said Glenda: "We are delighted this campaign is such an ongoing success and it has led to creating more bespoke bags for other charities, schools and businesses throughout the UK"

A few weeks ago the charibag team announced they would challenge men's bad bag habits, as they felt men were the worst culprits.

They definitely had plenty of excuses why they weren't using 'a bag for life' here are just a few of the comments: "I've left her at home" or "Bags are for women" or "My other half usually does the shopping" or "If I use a bag am I going to be chased around the supermarket by the likes of Graham Norton and Julian Clary?"

Added Glenda, "We did find many REAL men, who were very keen to use a charibag to help the environment and support a local good cause"

But the main excuse we found why both men and women of all ages continue to use plastic bags was, "I use them for my bin"

With this in mind biodegradable bin bags will given away free with every charibag purchased at all future promotions held on behalf of Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity starting this week on Fri 4th – Sat 5th July at Sainsbury's, Crystal Peaks and on Sat 5th July at the NHS Pulse event at Hillsborough Park.

Any retailers, businesses, office staff and schools who wish to support the Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity can have a stock of bags on a sale or return basis or if you wish to have your own bespoke charibags please contact the Chariband office on 0114 2792871 or visit www.chariband.co.uk
