Couples give thanks for love in Valentine’s service
WEDDING day memories came flooding back for couples who revisited the church where they married.
St James’ Church, Norton, Sheffield, held a special service for couples to return, give thanks for their marriages and affirm their commitment.
Katherine and Geoffrey Hartland, of Ecclesall, married at St James’ – one of the oldest churches in the city – on August 12, 1967.
Katherine, aged 70, said: “Services like these are important as they make you think about what you promised and how things have gone.
“My parents married at St James’, my grandparents did and I think my great-grandparents too.”
Ross and Jenny Bingham, of Southall, married on August 13 last year. Ross, aged 34, said: “The wedding was fantastic, we were panicking a bit because it forecast rain but it went really well. It was good to go back.”
The Reverend Geoffrey White said the church was a busiest parish for weddings, with about 30 a year.
