CYCLING enthusiast Charlie Last saddled up for a challenge in support of a new group for bereaved parents.

The keen biker set up his bike on Vicar Lane in Chesterfield town centre – then pedalled for four hours.

Sands, a national charity which helps parents whose children are stillborn or die shortly after birth, has set up a new branch in the town.

Charlie, aged 59, who owns The Carpeteer shop on Church Street, Dronfield, decided to help the organisation’s volunteers raise funds for their work in the area.

He cycled a total of 60 miles and the charity collected £169.53, plus £43 from two Name The Bear competitions held at the same time.

Andrew Crossley of Dronfield firm AH Crossley Landscapes raised £181 having his legs waxed by volunteers from Sands.

The group holds its first meeting on Tuesday between 7pm and 9pm at Chesterfield Community Fire Station, Spire Walk Business Park. Meetings will then be held on the first Tuesday of every month.
