PREPARATIONS are under way for a Sheffield film festival.

The seventh annual Sheffield Adventure Film Festival will see more than 70 different films screened over one weekend at the Showroom Cinema, Paternoster Row.

Lissa Cook, festival marketing manager, said Sheffield was the ideal location for the event.

“Sheffield is the adventure capital of the UK,” she said. “With the Peak District National Park on the doorstep, the city has really put its mark down in the outdoor activities world.”

The festival, from Friday to Sunday, March 9-11, involves a series of adventure, travel and extreme sports films from around the world, as well as talks from adventurers about their journeys.

Highlights include Unbreakable, a film about four runners in a 100-mile foot race, and an illustrated lecture by 1984 Olympic marathon bronze medallist and London Marathon winner Charlie Spedding.

Matt Heason, festival director, said: “We’ll also have stills photography and video shorts competitions, as well as art and photography exhibitions, a secondhand kit sale, live music in the bar and plenty more.”

Ian Wild, Showroom Workstation chief executive, said the Showroom was delighted to be hosting the festival.

“The Showroom is pleased to be hosting Shaff again as it is a unique event to showcase a fantastic range of new films.

“With the Peaks on our doorstep, Sheffield is the perfect home for a festival celebrating outdoor pursuits and the spirit of adventure,” he said.

“Seen on the big screen, these films are truly breathtaking.”
