A CHARITY worker from Sheffield will live on just 10 litres of water a day for a week – to highlight the plight of those around the world who do not have regular access to water.

Rachel Wood, from Hunters Bar, will use just 70 litres of water for a week for cooking, washing and drinking – the average person in the UK uses 150 litres a day – as part of Catholic aid agency Cafod’s Thirst for Change campaign.

The 28-year-old, who works for Cafod, said: “The statistics are shocking. A child dies every 20 seconds from diseases caused by poor water and sanitation.”

“By doing this challenge, I hope to raise awareness of the issue.”

CAFOD is asking Prime Minister David Cameron to influence the leaders of other powerful nations at the G8 meeting in May and lead the way on ending water poverty.
