The last book I read
As a lover of non-fiction, I was recently bought a copy of The Last Lecture. The book details a lecture by Randy Pausch, a professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It aims to be a lesson to his children on how to conduct themselves and embrace life. In July 2008, ten months after giving his lecture, he died of pancreatic cancer. His story is truly inspirational.
The last CD I bought
Not one to push my way around megastores, I download a lot. My most recent purchase was Thing a Week Three by Jonathan Coulton. A software designer by trade, he used to dabble in music part-time. When his daughter was born, however, he found it impossible to continue in a career that didn't represent who he really was. He quit shortly after to become a full-time musician, and this album was one of his first projects. He is a very strong songwriter with a finely tuned sense of humour.
The last film I saw
I think most people's answer to this question would be The Dark Knight, and I am no exception. I don't think I even need to recommend it, do I? The film doesn't need my help, so I give it two thumbs down!
The last TV show I watched
My daily indulgence is watching The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on More4 and The Colbert Report on FX. Both are comedy showcases of each host's personal view of the news. Jon Stewart, in particular, has to be the most articulate and clear thinker I know. His approach to deconstructing global politics and pop culture, to get to the true meaning, is spectacular.
The last place I visited
I visited Barcelona with some friends to see England play Andorra in the World Cup 2010 qualifying game. Put it this way, The Dark Knight was very, very good!
The last meal out
As most parents will testify, my wife and I don't get out to restaurants anywhere nearly as often as we would like. I did, however, have a lunch meeting recently at The Milestone in Kelham Island. I would highly recommend it. Great atmosphere, good selection of beers and a full and varied menu.
