A BOXING Club is being launched in Kendray to help keep kids out of trouble.
Local councillor Jim Smith hopes the club will inspire youngsters to follow in the footsteps of stars like the BBC sports personality of the year Joe Calzaghe.

Coun Smith said: "We have been working on this for two years and have responded to quer
ies from a number of young people who were in danger of going off the rails.

"They were complaining there was nothing positive to do with all their energies and were seeking a place where they could go. Hopefully this new boxing club will address those needs."

The Kendray Boxing Club has been given £500 from the Community Support Fund to buy equipment and will open at the Cedar Crescent community centre on Monday January 21 at 6pm.

Boxers from the Hard and Fast Club in Cudworth will give a demonstration and conduct coaching sessions.

The club will be open to boys and girls aged eight to 18 and application forms are being sent around schools on the estate.

There will also be the chance for adults to become qualified trainers.
