COMMUNITY groups and organisations which tackle local policing issues are being urged to apply for cash grants to fund their work.
South Yorkshire Police Authority offers grants of up to £2,000 as part of its annual A Better Community awards and last year gave away nearly £189,000 to 138 projects in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster

Police issues the authority wants the cash to be spent on include improving the safety of vulnerable people, reducing criminal damage, theft, burglary and robbery, reducing alcohol and drug related crime and providing support to victims, witnesses and vulnerable communities.

Groups can apply for the grants between February 11 and March 20. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of May.

Contact the Police Authority on 01226 772809.
