PARENTS and celebrities are going spotty for a children’s clothing range that is selling out before it hits the shops.

Spotty Otter, which produces children’s outdoor gear at Millhouse Green, is seeing massive pre-order demand and has doubled its order to manufacturers for this year’s winter stock amid fears of further chilly weather.

Company bosses also say several celebrities have been snapping up its waterproofs, down jackets, boots and eco-socks but are keeping tight-lipped about the famous customers’ identities.

Director Stephanie Jones. a former midwife who set up the firm with IT expert husband Matthew, said: “We have taken phone calls from well-known people buying for their children, it wouldn’t be fair to say who.”

There are also tales of customers travelling from Edinburgh to Elsecar to get their hands on the range.

It is sold at sister firm Little Trekkers shops at Elsecar Heritage Centre and the firm’s Bullhouse Mill base.

Stephanie added: “We’ve been told by retailers that Spotty Otter is like a cult brand. “If somebody walks up Snowdon our clothes will be able to cope with the conditions but our down jackets are also apparently the thing to wear on the High Street.”

Snow is not expected over the coming days. Weather forecasters say it should be chilly with sunshine during the day today and tomorrow with temperatures 3C to 4C. There is set to be a frost tonight. On Saturday night, temperatures should be above freezing. Rain is due on Sunday.
