Westfield Health, the Sheffield-based leading health insurance cash plan provider, is acquiring private medical insurance business PatientChoice for an undisclosed sum.
Surrey-based PatientChoice designs, markets and sells health insurance products which complement Britain’s National Health Service, on behalf of The Ancient Order of Foresters Friendly Society and Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK).
The company has administered Westfield Health’s highly successful Surgery Choices product which was launched in 2007 and provides cover that enables key employees to gain faster treatment for conditions which could keep them off work for long periods but are not considered urgent by the NHS.
Westfield says the acquisition is significant strategic move to further develop its products and services and means it will assume sole responsibility for the administration of Surgery Choices.
Chief executive Jill Davies said: “The acquisition of PatientChoice is an exciting development and a natural progression for Westfield Health, which is extremely positive news for policyholders and stakeholders.
“When Westfield launched Surgery Choices it was considered a bold move by the market and has been extremely well received since.
“The product has proved popular with intermediaries, employers and employees.
“The acquisition of PatientChoice further strengthens Westfield’s commitment to delivering innovative and relevant health cover,” added the Westfield Health chief executive.
