REDUCED timetables will operate on buses, trains and trams in South Yorkshire over Christmas and New Year.

Trains will finish early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, while no rail services run on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, but there will be no engineering work disruption in the area this year.

Buses are to operate every day except Christmas Day, with special services in Sheffield on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day for the fifth year in a row.

A South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive spokesman said: “During the festive season, bus, tram and train services in South Yorkshire will not always run to their usual timetables and passengers so passengers should plan their journeys before travelling.

“In many cases, services on weekdays will be following their usual Saturday timetables. To check the usual timetable information for your bus or tram, visit our website at Travel South Yorkshire You can view timetable information for trains on the National Rail Enquiries website.”

Services run as normal across South Yorkshire until Sunday, December 23.

Christmas Eve has a Saturday service with last departures on buses and trams after 6pm, while trains finish after 8pm.

On Boxing Day, special buses run on services 11, 14, 17, 20A, 22, 37, 47, 51, 52, 53, 56, 57, 70, 71, 79/79A, 83, 87, 88 97, 120 and X30 with a £1 flat fare. Supertram services are also running to a limited timetable.
