The couple, of Rossington in Doncaster, said ‘I do’ in front of family and friends in a stunning ceremony at The Botanical Gardens, in Sheffield, before being whisked away to the city’s Whirlowbrook Hall for their reception.

Readers voted for the couple after Alec told of how he first fell for Diane when he would buy a daily cheese and ham sandwich from the shop where she was working. Eventually, they arranged to meet up for a drink – and the rest is history.

Sales assistant Diane, aged 38, was beaming from ear to ear as she walked through the gardens, with friend Grant Blakemore and bridesmaid Sharron Smith.

She wore a bespoke princess style wedding gown by designer Kelly Marie Redhead – a finalist in the best student designer of the year category in the Bridal Buyer Awards.

As Alec, aged 47, stood with his best man, Lee Floyd, he became tearful as his bride walked towards him.

The couple could not stop smiling as they said their vows and were pronounced husband and wife.

Following the ceremony they were showered with rose petals – before they released two white doves and celebrated with a glass of champagne.

Diane said: “I am on top of the world. It has been absolutely perfect.

“I was a bit stressed out in the morning, but as soon as someone told me it was time to put my dress on it was wonderful.”

Alec, a project manager, said: “It has been perfect for us, everything we could have wished for.

“We were up since 6am we were that excited. We can’t thank people enough for voting for us.”

The newlyweds then took part in a photo shoot worth £1,249 with city photographer Lloyd Siddall, before travelling to Whirlowbrook Hall for a three-course wedding breakfast and afternoon tea for 40 guests.

They later enjoyed an evening buffet for 80 guests, before dancing the night away.

Their first dance, which the couple had lessons for, was to Chasing Cars, by Snow Patrol.

To add a bit of fun to their day, Diane and Alec booked a photobooth and their videographer filmed a ‘marryoke’, where guests will be edited together singing Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.
