Lorries will be banned from using quiet country lanes as a rat-run - three years after residents launched a campaign.
Sheffield Council is now proposing a traffic regulation order affecting vehicles over 7.5 tonnes on 60 roads around the Mayfield Valley and surrounding areas.
Joan Newton, president of Mayfield WI, launched a petition calling for the move in 2011 and received support from more than 1,000 people.
She said it was only a partial victory.
Joan, who lives in Hangram Lane, one of the roads that will be affected by the order, said: “I don’t know why it has taken three years - when I first put the petition in the council had already allocated the money but there has been another two years.
“I’m pleased with the lorry ban but it’s not implementing everything that we asked for.”
The campaign also wants a 30mph speed limit to be implemented on various roads leading from Ringinglow Road, which has a 50 mph limit.
Currently these lanes have no speed limit.
Joan added: “The lorry drivers come off Ringinglow Road, rev up their throttles and come down at 70 miles an hour on narrow lanes with no verges or pavements and high hedges.
“These roads were built in the 18th century and are not suitable at all - it is dangerous and people have no way to get out of there way.”
The traffic regulation order also bans vehicles over 9.9 metres in length from parts of Mortimer Road at Agden Bridge, Emlin Dike Bridge, Ewden Bridge and Strines Bridge.
It revokes the one-way HGV restriction on Hagg Hill, Clough Field.
Fulwood Coun Andrew Sangar said: “Residents have been asking for this measure for some time and I’m pleasedthe council is now proposing action.
“Council transport bosses have been dragging their feet on this plan and it’s a shame that it’s taken three years to get to this point.”
The council said funding for the orders would come from HGV routing.
Under the order vehicles over 7.5 tonnes will be prohibited, except for access, from entering parts of Andwell Lane, Back Lane, Bassett Lane, Blackbrook Road, Bole Hill Road, Brooklands Avenue, Brooklands Crescent, Brooklands Drive, Brook House Hill, Brown Hills Lane, Cloughfields, Clough Lane, Common Lane, Cottage Lane, David Lane, Douse Croft Lane, Foxhall Lane, Fulwood Head Road, Fulwood Lane, Gorse Lane, Greenhouse Lane, Hagg Hill, Hagg Lane, Hanging Water Road, Hangram Lane, Harrison Lane, Harrop Lane, Highcliffe Road, Houndkirk Road, Ivy Cottage Lane, Jumble Road, Lodge Moor Road, Long Lane, Long Line, Mark Lane, Mayfield Road, Moorcroft Avenue, Moorcroft Close, Moorcroft Drive, Moorcroft Road, Quiet Lane, Redmires Lane, Redmires Road, Ringinglow Road, Roper Hill, School Green Lane, Sheephill Road, Soughley Lane, Stephen Hill, Stephen Drive, The Pines, Trap Lane, Wagg Lane, Whiteley Lane, Whiteley Wood Close, Whiteley Wood Road, Whitfield Road, Woodcliffe and Woodfindin Avenue;
