Valet seeks a flying success

Have your say

Edward Birks has got his feet planted firmly on the ground as his business for high flyers takes off.

The Rotherham-based entrepreneur has launched a UK-wide aircraft valeting business, with the help of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, the European Union-funded Regional Enterprise Programme, bankers HSBC and the Doncaster Enterprise Agency and loan fund, Donbac.

Mr Birks spotted a gap in the market for high-quality aircraft valeters in the region while taking flying lessons.

Having become unemployed he decided to create his own job with advice from Jav Khan at the Chamber.

“Every bit of advice I have had from Jav has been spot on – I couldn’t have done it without him,” said Mr Birks.

“I have been given a lot of guidance by different people but I have great trust in Jav’s knowledge and experience.

“It has been a long road but I am now starting to see the work come to fruition. I had a business plan when I first saw Jav which we then worked on intensely to make it fit for purpose.

“Jav also aided me in accessing business finance through his contacts at HSBC bank, who have been very helpful and also from Donbac – which has enabled me to purchase the equipment and insurance I needed.”

Mr Birks adds that anyone with a business idea should go to the Chamber for help.
